Shopwyke North Bridge

Work on site is complete at Shopwyke for the installation of the new shared use pedestrian / cycle bridge over the A27 in Chichester. The 3m wide, 33m long span bridge with 200m of approach ramps provide a safe route across the A27 replacing the previous at-grade crossing. The main span bridge was successfully lifted into position on a single night shift under a full road closure using a 500t mobile crane. Working for Hanbury Properties, for National Highways, the wider scheme included:

  • Design and build package to highways specification, including Technical Approval drawings, Road Safety Audits and Geotechnical Reports

  • Co-ordination of gas and water utilities diversions

  • Piling and pile cap foundation construction

  • Installation of highway drainage kerbs

  • Relocation of street lighting

  • Installation of vehicle restrain systems

  • Construction of tarmac approach footpaths

  • Landscaping and planting

  • Installation of boundary fencing

  • Booking and co-ordination of traffic management and road space

  • Co-ordination of crane lifts and temporary works designs

  • Design, Fabrication and installation of bridge superstructure.
