Hayes Way Footbridge

Avon Construction were awarded the contract to design and build the reinforced concrete foundations for a new 25m span footbridge; crossing an attenuation ditch alongside Hayes Way in Bristol. We undertook the duties of principal contractor for the job; and oversaw everything from the approval in principal (AIP) submission, geotechnical design report, on-site safety, foundation construction and supervision of the bridge installation.

Our works package included environmental protection and considerations of the attenuation ditch, design of the reinforced concrete foundations, installation of temporary haul roads to the works locations, installation of 10no. 6m deep grout filled cased piles into bedrock, pile cap construction, traffic management and road closure arrangements, temporary works design, approach path construction and landscape works.

We worked closely with the client and South Gloucestershire Council to ensure the 25m span footbridge was successfully installed on a night closure of the adjacent dual carriageway with a 400t crane.
