Hamworthy Footbridge

Avon Construction were awarded the contract to design and construct a new 28m span pedestrian footbridge to create a safe crossing for pedestrians and cyclists between the Harbour Reach development and Hamworthy Park. The Bridge itself was constructed off site and the sections were craned into position using a 200T Crane.

Works involved installing 28no 16m deep 450mm diameter piles and reinforced concrete pile caps and the casting of the reinforced concrete approach ramp. The structure consists of five supporting columns and landings and the main 28m span. The handrails incorporate LED lighting.

The site is in close proximity to the foreshore and public access to the park and beach was maintained wherever possible.

The work was completed and the official opening was held on 21st December 2015.

Hamworthy Bridge won the Small Project of the Year Award 2016 by the Institute of highway Engineers, South Western Branch.
